"REAL TALK"
Did you know Ramona is located at about 33 degrees North latitude, the same orientation as these world locales: Charleston, South Carolina and Casablanca, Morocco. Jerusalem, Israel and Shanghai, China are slightly further south, while Tokyo is just north of our latitude. Ramona is approximately 116 degrees West longitude, with nothing but the Pacific Ocean south of our border with Mexico. To the north Spokane, Washington and Jasper, Canada are close to our longitude, but thereafter it is mostly the frozen north and the Arctic Ocean. If you wonder about the rest of the world, just remember that it all starts at Greenwich, England, the zero degree longitude or the "prime meridian". From there the globe is divided into 360 degrees, with the 180th degree longitude being the "International Dateline", just skirting the eastern edge of New Zealand. The dateline is an imaginary line and does not follow the exact 180th degree to avoid splitting an island or an island nation in half. Everything west of Greenwich is a westerly degree longitude, and to the East is an easterly degree until they meet at the International Dateline mentioned above. Latitude is even simpler to figure out. The equator is considered zero degrees, and everything is either north or south thereof. The imaginary lines called the "Tropic of Cancer" and the "Tropic of Capricorn" are about 20 degrees south and 45 degrees north respectively. The equator (zero degree latitude)
and the Prime Meridian (zero degree longitude) meet in the Gulf of Guinea
in the South Atlantic Ocean, just below the bulge of northern Africa.
